The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, together with the International Labor Organization/International Training Center in Turin (Italy), in collaboration with the Alliance of Trainers and Consultants (ATiC), launched the first online course on financial literacy in the KYRGYZ language.

The online course is intended for a wide range of users interested in gaining new knowledge on financial literacy, and will allow everyone, regardless of location and time, to get unlimited free access to educational materials.

Particular emphasis is placed on the involvement of all family members in the process of planning and managing family finances. Participants who successfully complete the full course will receive an electronic certificate.

The online financial literacy training course was developed as part of the joint project “Empowering women and girls vulnerable to migration for inclusive and peaceful development of communities” and is being implemented by the International Labor Organization (ILO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN -Women with financial support from the UN Peacebuilding Fund.

The course consists of 4 modules and 15 training sessions for self-study, developed and adapted taking into account the regional characteristics of our country, covers current issues, and fills the gaps in financial literacy of the population.

In 2018, the rating agency MicroFinanza Rating conducted a social audit of the activities of the Microcredit Company OXUS, which affected the following areas:

  •  Social Impact Management
  • Client protection; responsibility
  • Outreach
  • Quality of service provision

Based on the results of the audit, it was revealed that OXUS has proper social impact management and an adequate client protection system, for which it received a Social Rating - sBB.

  • SPI4

In 2019, the Company independently conducted a social audit using the SPI4 tool, which identified areas for improving the company’s management system and methods through the Universal Standards for Social Impact Management. This is a comprehensive best practice guide developed by experts for the microfinance sector as a resource to help organizations achieve their broad goals of increasing financial inclusion and creating value for clients, which starts with reducing their vulnerability.

  • SMART Campaign

OXUS builds its activities on the basis of transparency, honesty, as well as caring and fair treatment of clients, adhering to the principles of client protection “Smart Campaign”. The Smart Campaign is a global effort to unite microfinance leaders around a common goal: ensuring the safety of microfinance clients as the main driver of the industry's growth.

OXUS is introducing the concept of “Intelligent microfinance”, which includes the following principles of client protection:

  • Preventing Over-Indebtedness
  • Transparent and responsible pricing
  • Proper Debt Collection Practices
  • Ethical behavior of staff
  • Mechanisms for reviewing and resolving grievances
  • Confidentiality of client’s personal data

 

  • Financial literacy

One of the Company's social goals is to improve the sustainable livelihoods of our clients. In pursuit of its social goals, OXUS tries to contribute to increasing the level of financial literacy of the population of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Improving financial literacy is a national goal that must be achieved together.

By Decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic dated June 15, 2016 No. 319, the State Program for Improving Financial Literacy of the Population for 2016-2020 was approved (see http://finsabat.kg/projects/3). The coordinator of the implementation of the Program is the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic.

As part of this Program, since July 2019, the Association of Microfinance Institutions (AMFI), together with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), launched a project aimed at training trainers and conducting large-scale training for the population on financial literacy. It is expected that as a result of the training, financial literacy and the efficiency of using personal finances of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic, in particular the younger generation, will increase.

As part of this project, OXUS conducted a number of trainings for our clients and not only to improve the level of financial literacy. The following topics were covered at this training:

  • FINANCIAL PLANNING AND BUDGET
  • SAVING
  • BORROWING
  • PROTECTION OF THE RIGHTS OF CONSUMERS OF FINANCIAL SERVICES

Upon completion of the training, students acquired basic financial literacy competencies and received supporting certificates.

One of the internal tasks of the company is insurance of our employees. Our company's employees are insured against accidents under compulsory insurance, as well as against industrial injuries in the workplace. The Company's management decided to expand insurance to cover non-working hours. Therefore, in January, all employees and drivers of OXUS were insured against accidents for 24 hours, 7 days a week. This is a type of special voluntary insurance.
